The airports of Alicante and Valencia continue to break records. They have closed the best January in their history thanks to the strong increase in international travel, which confirms the trend towards the deseasonalization of tourism in the Valencian Community.

The Alicante-Elx-Miguel Hernández aerodrome is also the one that increases its passage the most within the Spanish Top-15, exceeding the 20% increase compared to January 2023. Specifically, the Alicante airport infrastructure has had 958,088 passengers, while that of Valencia grew by 11.6%, up to 654,454 passengers.

In addition to the passenger record, Alicante-Elche Airport has also exceeded its aircraft movement figures, with 6,468 flights managed. In this way, it has grown by 20.5% in travelers and 18.8% in flights, compared to the same period in 2023, as indicated by Aena in a statement.

International passengers have made the greatest contribution to these good traffic data and have contributed 805,602 travelers from the bulk of commercial operations, which represents an increase of 22.1%. The recovery of the British market in the airport area and its great connectivity with 20 airports in the United Kingdom, as well as the good performance of other international destinations during the winter months, have made it possible to reach this volume of travelers.

By nationality in the international area, the countries that contributed the most passengers in January 2024 were the United Kingdom, with 287,555 travelers; followed by the Netherlands, with 77,631; Belgium, with 63,598; Poland, with 61,901; and Germany, with 56,392.

As for national traffic, it also maintains a significant percentage of increase and registers 151,379 passengers, which represents an increase of 12.9%, compared to commercial traffic and in relation to the previous year.

In Valencia, of the total number of travelers recorded in January, 652,890 corresponded to commercial passengers, of which 474,710 traveled on international flights, which represents an increase of 15.4% compared to the same month of the previous year. 178,180 did so on domestic flights, 2.1% more.

When breaking down the main origins and destinations of international passengers registered in January, the most numerous were those from or to Italy, which totaled 112,907 travelers; followed by France, with 57,056; Germany, with 53,888; United Kingdom, with 46,063; Netherlands, with 45,553, and Poland, with 27,484.

Regarding operations, Valencia Airport managed a total of 5,698 flights in January, which represents an increase of 6.9% compared to the movements of the same period in 2023.
