The bee-eaters friends of the sparrow

The bee-eaters have already arrived in Manlleu, in the Osona region, where they do not mind sharing space with the sparrows, as can be seen in these images in The Readers’ Photos of La Vanguardia.

The bee-eater is one of the most attractive birds, as can be seen in the images. As its name indicates, it is a specialist in capturing bees and also other flying insects.

They like areas where insects abound. Their very showy colors stand out, like many African birds, and they have nests on the edges of roads. They are deep holes in the ground.

This migratory bird returns to these lands every year and, in autumn, when its chicks are ready to undertake a long flight, they return to warmer lands.

It is an unmistakable bird, given the multitude of colors it has: blue on the chest, greenish on the belly, cinnamon head, yellow neck and a black stripe that adorns its eye.
