The extra attraction that Barcelona is bringing to the America’s Cup in sailing is beginning to be noticed in the programming of this important international sports event that will take place in the waters of the Catalan capital next year. Today it has been announced that the teams from Germany, Sweden and Australia will complete, together with those already confirmed from Spain, the Netherlands and Canada, the group of squads that will compete against the six official participants of the Young America Cup (reserved for minor crew 25 years old) and Women’s of Barcelona 2024.

The six official teams of these competitions are New Zealand, Great Britain, Italy, Switzerland, the United States and France, which coincide with the nationalities of the squads that will compete for the Hundred Guineas Jug and which are framed in the so-called group A.

The new teams confirmed yesterday for the women’s and youth events are the following: EmbRacing Team Germany, on behalf of the Kieler Yacht Club 3.V, and the Norddeutscher Regatta Verein (Germany); Women’s AC Challenge and Youth AC (Sweden) representing the Royal Swedish Yacht Club; and Team Australia Challenge from the country’s Cruising Yacht Club.

These teams will now begin the planning and selection tests for their youth and women’s crews that will compete in Group B against Spain, the Netherlands and Canada.

The format of the competition, which can be followed from the Barcelona coast, will be a series of six to nine fleet regattas (all against all) to determine the best of three teams from each Group (A and B), which will then face the youth and women’s teams that represent the competing teams of the 37th America’s Cup. From there, an additional series of fleet regattas of up to four sleeves will be organized to decide the two best teams that will advance to the final that will be held in match race mode (boat against boat).

The final regatta of the Youth Cup is scheduled for October 2, 2024, between one of the final sleeves of the Challengers tournament to choose the Defender’s rival in the final of the 37th America’s Cup.

The final regatta of the women’s competition is scheduled for October 16, 2024, between two of the final legs of the main regatta.
