The Attorney General's Office supports limiting the review of convictions by the law of 'only yes is yes'

The Board of Prosecutors of the Supreme Court has endorsed the criteria of the State Attorney General, Álvaro García Ortiz, on the review of sentences for crimes against sexual freedom

included in the draft circular on the reform of crimes against sexual freedom operated by the yes is yes law, promoted by the Ministry of Equality, and which has led to the reduction of hundreds of sentences for sexual offenders.

The Chamber Prosecutors have introduced technical improvements in the García text proposal, submitted today for a report, which will be taken into account for the final wording of the circular.

Likewise, they have supported the opportunity for the publication of this circular whose regulation on the review of convictions for crimes against sexual freedom has had the full consensus of the Board.

The circular insists that it is not necessary to review the sentences of those convicted of sexual crimes, if they are included in the bracket established by the Law of only yes is yes for each crime.

With this, the Attorney General’s Office intends to expand and reinforce the criteria for action contained in the decree that it sent to all prosecutors in November, in which the cases in which prosecutors will support a reduction in the sentence initially imposed on the aggressors are reduced. sexual.
