The companies Plasticos Inden, Avecox and Port Hotels have been awarded with the awards granted annually by the Family Business Association of the province of Alicante, which reach their twenty-eighth edition this year. The Manuel Peláez Castillo Honor Award goes to Rafael Bernabeu Moya “for his career as a family businessman, his contribution to sectoral associations, both at the provincial, national and international level, as well as for his entrepreneurial character and connection with AEFA and the world of family business”.
The AEFA Awards were created more than two decades ago with the aim of recognizing the trajectory of family businesses in the province of Alicante, for their contribution to the creation of wealth and employment in the territory, as well as for their commitment to innovation. internationalization, entrepreneurship, competitiveness and involvement with society. This year’s awards ceremony will take place on October 2 at 12 noon at the Círculo Industrial de Alcoi.
The president of AEFA, Maite Antón, highlighted yesterday the commitment of the winners to “innovation, to their human team and to sharing what they achieve with society”, values ??that, according to Antón, “make them the best light that one can find when difficult times come.” The businesswoman also spoke about the 99% bonus on the Consell’s Inheritance and Donation Tax, “a gesture that we appreciate and that resolves one of the historical demands that we have been making since our association,” she explained.
The company Plásticas Inden de Ibi, which produces 200 million containers annually, will receive the Generalitat Award “in recognition of its trajectory and capacity for innovation in the plastic extrusion sector through the manufacture of plastic containers. The delegate of the Consell, Agustina Esteve, pointed out that “her vision of the future allowed her to predict greater business development in the sector.”
It is a family business that is in the third generation, created in 1989 by Bernardo Guillem, who had the determination to reinvent his musical toy company to enter the plastic extrusion sector. Today it manufactures packaging of all types: packaging, pharmaceutical, food, cosmetic, decorative or liturgical.
The Alicante Provincial Council Award goes to Avecox, whose roots are in the Vega Baja region, in the municipality of Cox. “The entrepreneurial spirit, which has led it to maintain an important presence in the industrial poultry management sector and to be present in 15 countries, has earned it this recognition,” says the president of AEFA.
Avecox arises from the initiative of a young entrepreneur named Ramón Rives Marhuenda, who continued the activity that his father, José Rives, who died in 1981, started and taught him many years ago. In 1976, Ramón Rives decided to start an industrial poultry slaughterhouse, thus creating the first company that would bear his name, Ramón Rives, S.L. He began his journey with his wife Mª Carmen Gambín, with only five employees.
The family business Port Hotels of Benidorm receives recognition from the CaixaBank Award “for its expansion and growth, as well as its ability to adapt in the tourism sector.” The hotel chain has 11 establishments with more than 4,000 beds in the province of Alicante and Valencia.
In recent years, Port Hotels has expanded its hotel business model traditionally aimed at sun and beach tourism on the Costa Blanca through the acquisition of urban hotels such as the Hotel Port Elche and the Hotel Port Jardín Milenio, in Elche, and the management of the Hotel Port Azafata and Hotel Port Feria, in Valencia. And it has also landed in the luxury tourism segment thanks to the purchase of the historic Hotel Huerto del Cura, located in the middle of the paradisiacal palm grove of Elx.
