Spain faces another episode of “exceptionally high temperatures for the time of year”, with maximums that this Thursday could exceed 35 degrees in the southwestern quadrant of the peninsula, according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) forecast on its website.

The presence of a stationary anticyclone is causing stable weather throughout the country. The strong sunshine and subsidence associated with the highly stable conditions are causing a general increase in temperatures, with values ??around 10 degrees above normal for the time, explains the agency.

The rise in temperatures will intensify this Friday, starting on Friday the 29th, when a small drop in height will move to the west of the Canary Islands and the Peninsula, inducing the entry of a mass of warm and dry air of Saharan origin, which in The Canary Islands will cause a haze intrusion.

For today, the most pronounced thermal rises will occur mainly in the western half of the peninsula, with the probability that 36-38 degrees will be reached in the Guadalquivir valley and other points in the southwest of the peninsula. Temperatures will exceed 35 degrees in provinces such as Seville, Jaén Granada and Badajoz. Cáceres, Ciudad Real, Salamanca or Zaragoza will be close by, above 30.

This Friday the east wind will also blow in Alborán and with strong intervals in the Strait, which has forced the Aemet to activate the yellow warning for gusts of between 50 and 61 km/h (force 7) in the Strait, around Tarifa and west of Tarifa, and offshore south of Trafalgar.

In the Canary Islands, between Saturday the 30th and Monday the 2nd, temperatures could also occasionally exceed 34 degrees, especially in the eastern islands.

This episode of “exceptionally high” temperatures will last throughout the weekend, Aemet predicts. Starting on Tuesday the 3rd, a gradual thermal cooling is expected to occur, starting in the north of the peninsula and the Ebro valley.
