The actress Itziar Ituño is once again at the center of controversy. The artist sang the song Sarri Sarri by Kortatu when going on stage at the Your’s Awards to collect an award. The scene has generated a lot of headlines, because the lyrics are about two escaped ETA members. It is worth remembering that in the past the actress, recognized for her role as Raquel Murillo in La Casa de Papel, generated a great stir after participating in a demonstration for the rapprochement of ETA prisoners.
Ituño came out to the awards stage to collect the honorary award. After settling in on stage, he dedicated the award to “a colleague who is also the victim of an attack, like I was in January,” he said, alluding to the commotion that was generated after his presence at the demonstration. “His name is Fermín Muguruza, and he is the famous author of the Kortatu song,” he continued saying, before starting to sing.
The scene has once again sparked controversy, since the lyrics celebrate the escape of two ETA members from the Martutene prison, in San Sebastián, in 1985. It is about the terrorists Joseba Sarrionaindía and Iñaki Pikabea, who emerged hidden in the loudspeakers that were there. used by singer Imanol Larzabal in a musical performance in prison.
In his speech supporting Muguruza, Ituño refers to some events that occurred at the end of February. It was then that the Joan Fuster Institute in Bellreguard (Valencia) inaugurated a mural dedicated to the Basque singer and filmmaker, taking advantage of his visit to the municipality. This detail did not please the Educators Against Indoctrination Association (ECA), who filed a complaint against the management of the center for an alleged crime of glorifying terrorism that was admitted by a court in Gandía. The actress now wanted to show solidarity with the artist.
The scene has cost the actress a lot of criticism through social networks. Many point to her for advocating the terrorist group. “And the respect for the victims? Tremendous,” can be read in a publication on X, formerly Twitter. “It’s disgusting,” says another Internet user. On the other hand, there are also those who have applauded that the actress defended freedom of expression.
The gala was organized by Your’s Magazine. The same publication expressed solidarity with the actress this Sunday through social networks. “From the organization of Your’s Magazine we want to send a very clear message of support to Itziar Ituño. We are with you, we cannot allow unjustifiable persecutions to continue in democracy for defending the right to freedom of expression. We are with you, Itziar! !!”, stated the magazine.
