In less than 72 hours, three boxes filled with 25 puppies in total, some of them newborns, arrived at the Maresme Care Center for Abandoned Companion Animals (CAAD). This is the situation that the center located in Can Carmany in Argentona (Maresme) experienced last week. The overflow forced us to ask for citizen collaboration to find babysitters who could take care of the animals during the first month and a half of their lives. The response was immediate which increases the chances of survival of all the puppies.

In its 17 years of life, CAAD Maresme had never experienced a similar episode. A few hours apart, 25 puppies arrived at the Center from Argentona, Pineda de Mar and Tordera. However, in recent months an exponential growth in the abandonment of animals and, especially puppies, has been detected, which forces a new call for responsible animal ownership. It should be remembered that the breeding of animals by individuals and, of course, their abandonment is prohibited.

The increase in dogs and cats that have arrived at the CAAD Maresme in recent months and the evolution of recoveries and adoptions that, as usual, have slowed down in the summer, have put the center at the limit of its capacity and collapse. Around 220 animals are waiting for a home and something unusual: many of them are puppies.

People who are thinking about adopting a dog or cat, or have lost their pet, can consult the CAAD Maresme website or contact the Center by email (atencioanimals@ccmaresme.cat) or telephone: 93 797 42 72.
