This Tuesday, members of the Mossos d’Esquadra began the eviction of three families with minors who lived in a block of flats occupied since 2021 in the Gràcia neighborhood of Barcelona at the request of the courts.
Sources from the Union of Tenants and Tenants and the Union of Housing of Gràcia and Vallcarca have reported that the evictions have taken place in the so-called Bloc Ruth, a property occupied two years ago and located at number 354 of calle Nàpols, from Barcelona.
In February of this year, another family with four minors was evicted from this same building, a situation that has been repeated today with three other families with small children, although there are still neighbors living in the block. All the affected families claim a social rent to be able to stay and live in this block of flats.
Entities in defense of housing ensure that the property, Cerberus, has refused to offer social rent to these families despite their vulnerability.
A group of about forty people tried to avoid eviction by sitting in front of the building’s entrance door, but the agents forced them out one by one, as the police usually do in this type of situation.
There were moments of tension between the activists and the police outside the building and some people were identified. However, Mossos sources have reported that the eviction process has not been completed and that for the moment it is taking place without problems or arrests.
