Between the phrase “I cannot let those who deny sexist violence into the Government” and “My word is not as important as the future of Extremadura” there are only ten days. And a full-blown rectification that the candidate for the presidency of the Junta de Extremadura, María Guardiola, assumes.

With a serious face, acknowledging that these are “difficult days”, the PP candidate to preside over the Junta de Extremadura announced yesterday the agreement with Vox that will allow her to reach the investiture. The ultranationalists will have only one department in their future government, that of Forest Management and the Rural World. The pact includes a 60-point document that is mandatory for both parties.

Guardiola, in a press conference shared with the Vox candidate for the presidency of the Board, Ángel Pelayo Gordillo, admitted having generated frustration in a large part of the people of Extremadura, whom the future candidate asks to be judged for what she does in his presidency, and to whom he guarantees that his principles “remain the same”, so they can be sure that “I am not lying” and, he stated, “I will always defend the rights of the LGTBI collective and diversity”.

In the government agreement with Vox, the candidate for the presidency has not managed to include, expressly, the condemnation of gender violence. But there is also no mention of intra-family violence, which has been included in the agreements of the Balearic Islands and Valencia.

The president of the PP from Extremadura explained her change of position in “the deep reflection” that she has carried out and has taken her back to when she decided to enter politics, “to improve the future of the people of Extremadura” and agreed to be a candidate to make the pact possible . The only way to achieve that objective, which is above his own, was an agreement with Vox, although without the initial claims of the ultra party, which according to Guardiola in front of the Vox candidate, were to have a vice-presidency and two councils.

Vox will not have intermediate positions, although an autonomous senator that corresponded to the PP is guaranteed, and both agree to reform the regulations of the Assembly so that all parties have representation on the Table, which would give a position to the ultranationalist party.

With this rectification, Extremadura has gone in ten days from having the electoral repetition as its horizon, a possibility that María Guardiola did not rule out to pressure Vox, to that the PP has guaranteed investiture.

The unknown is, now, when it will be. María Guardiola asked for time until the weekend on Wednesday to reach an agreement with the ultranationalists, but the president of the Assembly, the socialist Blanca Martín, decided not to grant it and speed up the deadlines, and call an investiture of the socialist Guillermo Fernández Vara , which does not have a sufficient majority, for next Wednesday.

The acting president of the Board, who reacted on Twitter to the pact between PP and Vox, indicated the path to follow, leaving the call on the air. “Our investiture proposal has had its effect”, the “impossible has become possible” and there should be a new round of contacts, in my opinion, and from there would come the suspension of one investiture and the call for another”, since Guardiola He now has one more vote than him. Of course, he wondered that “if it was so simple, why so ridiculous televised?”.
