A teenager who admitted to trying to kill a 14-year-old on a school bus in Prince George’s County has been sentenced to 25 years in prison. The incident happened last year, and prosecutors said he tried to shoot the victim three times, but the gun malfunctioned each time.
Kaeden Holland, also known as “Baby K,” was charged as an adult even though he was 15 at the time of the attack. The attack took place on May 1, 2023, in Oxon Hill, Maryland, when Holland and the victim were on a school bus. Three young people boarded the bus and assaulted the 14-year-old, with the incident captured on the bus’ surveillance camera.
Despite attempting to shoot the victim three times, the gun jammed each time, leading to no bullets being fired. Holland even resorted to hitting the victim with the gun, his hands, and his feet. After the failed attempts to shoot the victim, Holland pointed the gun at the school bus driver and aide before fleeing the scene with the two other young people involved in the attack.
Fortunately, the 14-year-old victim only suffered minor injuries and was able to escape the ordeal. Holland pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree murder and using a gun in the commission of a crime earlier this year, resulting in a 25-year prison sentence.
The victim’s mother expressed gratitude that her son’s attacker would face consequences for his actions and mentioned that her son is receiving the necessary support. Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Aisha Braveboy also emphasized the importance of accountability for such violent acts and stated that Holland taking responsibility sends a message to other young people.
Following the sentencing, Braveboy reiterated the significance of safety and accountability in the community, highlighting the lasting impact of the traumatic incident on the school bus driver, aide, and teenage victim. Holland will serve his sentence in an adult facility, and the two other teenagers involved in the attack were also charged as adults.
