There are many around the world who defy winter by bathing in rivers and beaches at this time of year. But what may be more surprising and unique is that someone does it in the icy waters of a frozen lake. During these days, about 150 people participate in the winter swimming festival in the town of Newport, in the state of Vermont.
It is a contest that brings together several dozen people for four days to take a dip in this improvised 25-meter-long pool drilled in this thick lake in Memphremagog, located on the border between the United States and Canada.
The “pool” is located about 300 meters from the shore and the cold does not represent any type of impediment for participants to attend the test, even in costume.
