Swan sends 3 kayakers into water needing rescue

PITTSGROVE TWP. — A swan at Parvin State Park sent three kayakers into the water Friday afternoon, according to officials.

State Park Police and the Park Service were dispatched for the water rescue after a 911 call directed them to the lake, said Larry Hajna, spokesman for the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. The rescue occurred around 2:30 p.m.

The kayakers were either frightened or attacked by a mute swan and ended up in the water, Hajna said.
