A 20-year-old guy is in hot water after being accused of killing two people and injuring six others in a mass shooting at Florida State University’s campus on April 17. The grand jury indicted Phoenix Ikner on two counts of first-degree murder charges and seven counts of attempted first-degree murder with a firearm. According to WTXL ABC 27, the grand jury members described the shooting as “our community’s worst nightmare.” The incident took place in Tallahassee, Florida, and law enforcement officers were seen working at the campus following the tragic event.

Details revealed in the indictment shed light on the heroic actions of an FSU police officer named Cody Poppell, who bravely confronted Ikner during the shooting. Poppell reportedly fired several shots at Ikner, one of which hit him in the face. The grand jury also mentioned that Ikner used weapons stolen from his parents’ home, including a shotgun and a .45 caliber pistol, to carry out the attack. The victims, Robert Morales and Tiru Chabba, lost their lives in the senseless act of violence.

After spending time in the hospital due to a jaw injury sustained during the shooting, Ikner was booked on first-degree murder charges and related counts. His first court appearance took place online, where he was found to be indigent and provided a public defender named Randall Harper. Currently, Ikner is being held without bond in the Wakulla County Detention Facility. This is standard protocol due to his stepmother’s profession as a Leon County Sheriff’s deputy. The community is still reeling from the tragic events that unfolded on the FSU campus, and law enforcement officials are committed to ensuring justice, transparency, and safety for everyone involved.
