Sumar faces the round of consultations of the leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, with the groups prior to the investiture debate with the conviction that the attempt is doomed to failure and instead of sending its president, Yolanda Díaz, he will delegate his representation to its parliamentary spokesperson Marta Lois, according to a letter signed by the acting second vice president of the Government herself sent to the candidate for the investiture this Friday.

In addition to removing herself from these contacts, Yolanda Díaz asks Feijóo that “if he has the will to reach agreements” withdraw the unconstitutionality appeals presented by the PP against the trans law and the labor reform. “If Mr. Núñez Feijóo is willing to reach agreements, he must start by respecting the current social pacts,” adds Díaz.

The Sumar leader reproaches Feijóo for proposing a dialogue with the “democratic forces” while maintaining autonomous governments with Vox, a political force that “denies sexist violence and the climate crisis, and wants to prohibit democratic political formations.” For the formation of the left, “this is an erratic position that reinforces its loneliness.”

In the letter, Díaz warns Feijóo that the investiture is “doomed to failure” and is a “waste of time”, while confirming that “the only possible government is a coalition between PSOE and Sumar”, “that advances in the social and territorial agenda”.

“As always, we are open to dialogue and cooperation with democratic political forces to improve the lives of citizens and the institutions of our country. In this sense, we confirm the availability of the spokesperson for the Sumar parliamentary group, Mrs. (Marta ) Lois, for this meeting,” the letter states.

The general secretary of the PP, Cuca Gamarra, has attributed Yolanda Díaz’s refusal to meet with Feijóo to a “veto” or an “internal problem” within Sumar more than to any other issue.

When asked about this matter, the popular leader said that it seems to her to be a “very undemocratic exercise on the part of who calls herself the highest representative of Sumar” and has opined that this decision responds more “to the fact that Yolanda Díaz possibly does not represent everyone the parties that make up that conglomerate” of formations. “At this point we all know Yolanda Díaz quite well and she likes a moment of glory more than giving it up,” she ironized about Díaz.
