The Galician cook Lucía Freitas (A Tafona. Santiago de Compostela) stars in the new episode of the podcast Stay to eat. Freitas, who has just received one of the Comer Awards as promoter of the social, cultural and gastronomic project Amas da Terra, reflects on the way of experiencing her success: “For me it is the happiness of being able to help or give visibility to so many women . Having reached a point in my career when I can stop running and allow myself to enjoy each day with them and get to know more women, their reality and their lives. In addition to being very inspiring, it is a way to acquire knowledge that is being lost.”

This cook, who defines herself as an activist and dreamer, explains that she wants to fight against the invisibility and ignoring of women who do extremely important work for the community and whose value no one has ever recognized.

Freitas reviews her relationship with cooking since she was a child, which for her has been a therapy against her extreme shyness and encourages young people not to be left with the thorn of what they wanted to experience and did not dare. She also tells of the difficulties she had when her partner failed her and she found herself alone, or how the opportunity that arose for her to run a restaurant in New York helped her trust in herself. “I took off because I was left alone. Because it was me or me.”

Freitas talks about the empowerment and vital transformation that motherhood meant for her and the role of women in kitchens, which she believes is improving since common sense has been applied to working conditions as a result of the changes that the pandemic triggered. in the priorities in the lives of men and women.

In the podcast, the Galician cook also talks about the problems of food intolerances that she has suffered for a few years, how she began to make changes to her diet before being diagnosed and how ultra-processed foods have worsened the digestive health of many people.
