This series of spring postcards in Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia shows spring postcards of the Banyoles pond in color and with shades of gray that seem to unite the past with the present.
Going around the lake on foot allows you to observe and photograph its rich fauna and flora. Walking, distracting yourself with the landscape, you can cover the 6 km circuit.
There are several very well indicated routes. There are walkways and viewpoints that border the lake and bring you closer to the water to be able to contemplate it.
Fishing stands out. These constructions are similar to small palaces. They are the evolution and consolidation of the old footbridges that, due to the shallowness of the banks of the pond, were built to practice fishing.
The fisheries are advanced in the water to be deep enough to fish. All are located in the area closest to the population.
Located to the west of the municipality of Banyoles, the Estany was declared by the Generalitat de Catalunya as a part of the Plan for Areas of Natural Interest. In 2003 it was included in the Ramsar list of Wetlands of International Importance.
Lake Banyoles is of tectonic and karstic origin. It was formed in the Quaternary era, about 250,000 years ago. The tectonic movements produced by the formation of the Pyrenees opened the Empordà fault.
Erosion and other geological phenomena created the lake area. The first Banyoles lake was much larger than the current one, flooding the banks some 6 or 8 meters above the current water level.
This pond was part of the competitions for the 1992 Olympics and is a world reference in the sport of rowing. Every year a crossing is held here with about 3,000 swimmers.
