A wider, more varied offer – with the incorporation, for example, of music festivals such as Cruïlla or Sónar – and more young people who can benefit. Up to 30 years old. “Because when culture is accessible to everyone, it is fantasy,” as the spot says.

This November, the Department of Culture of the Generalitat launched Cultura Jove, the new platform that facilitates access to culture for the country’s young people. Cultura Jove reflects the spirit of Escena 25, its predecessor, but expands its scope: it includes more variety of offerings, more days of availability (the platform will be open all year round) and a larger audience, since now all people in Catalonia who have Between 18 and 30 years old (previously it was up to 25) can register on the website and start enjoying its advantages.

In this way, young people who register on the platform will be able to purchase tickets with a price range between 5 and 20 euros, depending on the original cost of each of them. 5 euros will be the minimum price and 20 the maximum, in the case of tickets that, for the general public, would be worth more than 45. The platform has been in operation since November 17.

During the presentation of the initiative, the Minister of Culture, Natàlia Garriga, explained, regarding the increase in the age to 30 years, that “we wanted to reach the same age as the rest of the Generalitat’s youth policies. The Carnet Jove or the T-Jove for public transport are also up to age 30, for example.” With this change, the Department’s desire is to accompany young people so that the economic barrier is not an impediment when it comes to enjoying culture, and to encourage them to acquire cultural habits.

Another novelty of Cultura Jove is that it increases the cultural proposals that can be accessed at special prices. Performing arts shows and concerts are maintained, in public and now also private facilities, and new options are added: music festivals, municipal stage-musical facilities and local venues.

And that’s not all: if Escena 25 only opened on specific days, at Cultura Jove users will be able to purchase tickets on the website 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The operation of the program is very simple for those registered: they only have to select and reserve the shows and concerts they want to attend among those available on the platform, buy the ticket and then collect it at the box office of the facility, room or theater where it takes place. the show they have chosen.

Also new, users will find the advantages of Cultura Jove in more and more payment gateways on websites selling the cultural facilities themselves.

In Catalonia there are currently more than 1,100,000 people between 18 and 30 years old. These young people will be able to attend as many shows as they wish throughout the year. In addition to enjoying exclusive prices, the Cultura Jove proposal also includes other activities such as post-performance debates, raffles to attend shows and festivals, and participatory actions with cultural professionals.

Cultura Jove is part of the new policies for access to culture that the Department of Culture is promoting, together with the Llei de Drets Culturals and the new subsidies for the promotion of cultural activity in micro-towns and for community culture projects, among others. Guaranteeing access to culture for all is one of the Government’s axes for this legislature, and young people are the audience of the present and the future as creators, recipients, participants or consumers. Cultura Jove is an initiative promoted by the Department of Culture in alliance with the theaters, facilities, festivals and concert halls of Catalonia. The program also has the collaboration of the Catalan Corporation of Audiovisuals Mitjans (CCMA).
