The storm that abandoned parts of the South buried under 15 inches of snow and a defense of ice is currently moving into the Northeast.
Little Rock, Arkansas, saw a listing 11.8 inches of snow Wednesday while 6 inches of snow fell in Oklahoma, Tennessee, Alabama and Mississippi.
Galveston, Texas, Mayor Craig Brown told”Good Morning America” Thursday that the town remains confronting burst pipes and electricity outages.
“Ninety percent of the whole population was cut off of their power for about two weeks,” Brown stated.
He said individuals are also addressing lack of water and food.
“The individual suffering though that is happening from this really is very, very concerning,” he said.
“In a hurricane you can go to the mainland and get away from this. In this particular scenario, wherever you go in Texas you have an issue that’s comparable to that which we’ve got here.”
On Thursday, the heavy snow is moving through Philadelphia and New York City with snowfall rates reaching 1 to 2 inches per hour.
About 100 flights have already been canceled at New York City’s LaGuardia airport.
Multiple vaccination websites in New Jersey are closed as a result of storm, Gov. Phil Murphy explained, adding vaccine shipments are expected to be impacted.
D.C. is seeing freezing mixture of freezing rain and sleet.
The snow will reach Boston later in the afternoon and will last from the Northeast cities through Friday morning.
