I share in La Vanguardia Readers’ Photos this series of detailed photographs of the beautiful snow lily that has grown in the garden at home, in Gurb, in Osona.

Snow lilies grow in humid, cool forests, so the landscape of the Osona region is ideal for the development of this plant.

The most popular species of Galanthus is the “snowdrop” (Galanthus nivalis), which grows spontaneously in forests, in compact colonies, in partially shaded places and often blooms in the snow.

The generic name Galanthus means “milk flower”, so they are also known by that name. The nickname “snow” is due to the early flowering of the plant.

But, despite the absence of snow in this winter of mild temperatures due to climate change in Catalonia, this lily makes its way and continues to shine at this time of year. Also, if it is grown domestically in gardens, as in the case of these images.
