The President of the Government and Secretary General of the PSOE, Pedro Sánchez, will undertake the pre-campaign for the European elections this Saturday in Barcelona, ??at a PSC event together with the winner of the 12-M elections, Salvador Illa, and the socialist candidate for the new elections, the Minister for the Ecological Transition Teresa Ribera.
Sánchez will return to Catalonia just one week after his last visit, on Friday, May 10, to participate in the campaign closing rally of the Catalan socialists. The new event will take place at the Palau de Congressos de Catalunya and will be the first for the President of the Government in Catalonia after Illa’s victory last Sunday.
The head of the Executive wants to take advantage of the clear victory of the PSC at the polls to promote the new electoral date of June 9, a victory that is read as a boost for his policies regarding Catalonia.
The PSC won 12-M by 42 deputies and more than 800,000 votes, so that the Catalan socialists won for the first time in history in both votes and deputies in an election to the Parliament of Catalonia.
Sánchez has dedicated himself to the Catalan campaign with four rallies and several visits, and although the European campaign does not start until next Thursday, May 23, his return to Catalonia is understood as a gesture of support for Illa’s intention to run for office. the investiture with left-wing agreements, and as a new example of complicity and involvement in Catalan politics.
After the event in Barcelona, ??the candidate Ribera will participate, on Sunday, in another pre-election rally in Cádiz together with the former president of the Government José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero.
