Sánchez seeks his second best result

The investiture debate of Pedro Sánchez begins this Wednesday in Congress, at 12 noon, with the speech of the acting President of the Government, who will present his proposals to open a new mandate. As expected, in the vote to be held on Thursday – at the end of the debate – Sánchez will obtain 179 votes in favor, thanks to the agreements that the PSOE has reached in recent weeks, with up to seven political parties.

Those 179 votes in favor, if confirmed, will allow him to revalidate the position. And they will also represent the second best endorsement that Sánchez has obtained from Congress to be President of the Government, since he tried for the first time in 2018, when he led a motion of censure against the then president and leader of the PP, Mariano Rajoy. The leader of the PSOE then obtained 180 votes in favor and was able to evict his political opponent from the Moncloa. In 2019, the parliamentary landscape had changed, with the end of the two-party system, and it took Sánchez a repeat election and up to four votes to finally be sworn in as President of the Government.
