The president of Foment del Treball, Josep Sánchez Llibre, has directly pointed out to the different governments of the Generalitat since 2008 the drought situation that the country is experiencing.
“If there is a culprit for the drought, it is the action of the different governments of the Generalitat from 2008 until now,” which, as he said, “have done absolutely nothing to try to alleviate the current situation.”
Since last September, however, he considers that the situation has changed and that the Government “rises to the occasion” and is trying to find “emergency solutions.” From Lleida, he has expressed that “this is not the time to make alarmist statements” and has asked that the lack of water not be criminalized in economic sectors such as agri-food and tourism.
Josep Sánchez Llibre criticized the Government of the Generalitat, considering that it did not react to the drought until it found itself “in a critical situation.” However, he stated that the steps he is following in recent months are the correct ones, although they are designed for the medium and long term.
Regarding the more immediate drought, he said that if it does not rain in the coming months it will be necessary to look for “alternative solutions” so that the drought “does not negatively affect tourism” and the rest of the country’s economic sectors. “I am convinced of the full complicity of the Government with the business sectors to try to alleviate the negative consequences,” he said.
The president of Foment del Treball visited the Paeria de Lleida this Monday, where he was received by the mayor Fèlix Larrosa.
The mayor explained that in the coming months the city will have four million new square meters for industrial and commercial uses, an announcement that Sánchez Llibre described as “good news for the area’s economy,” and added that they will facilitate their contacts to favor possible investments that want to be installed.
Subsequently, he went to the headquarters of the Confederation of Business Organizations of the Lands of Lleida (COELL), where he held a business meeting with associates in which current issues were discussed.
