Without a doubt, now Pedro Sánchez’s speech with the amnesty sounds fake, forced and interested. No more, in any case, than that of his most forceful detractors, who accuse him of being an autocrat. The latter, specialized in unscrupulous clashes and stigmatizing the opponent, did not criticize in the same way that Alberto Núñez Feijóo considered approaching (absurdly and clumsily) Junts.

They say everything about Sánchez, as well as his flagrant changes of opinion and his convenient line of argument. Does he deserve it? To a large extent, yes. More than their PP antagonists? Because? Just because he is more successful than them?

This being the case, Sánchez now has the right to turn around again, but a large part of his difficulty in doing so again with a happy ending is that with respect to Catalonia (that of the “social conflict”, according to him, not so long ago), with respect to Junts and Carles Puigdemont, its turn involves maneuvers and rhythms typical of the change of course of an ocean liner, not a simple boat.

The difficult maneuver to turn this particular dialectical and political transatlantic is the result of the dialectic of the “age of confrontation” that Christian Salmon, a skilled theorist of storytelling, has theorized so well in a policy dedicated to the constant clash that puts more and more difficult dialogue and negotiation. By the way, two different things.

And despite everything, agreement is not impossible, contrary to what logic and the strict use of reason could indicate, for the simple fact that neither one thing nor the other dominates in politics (nor in general in our lives. ). But the agreement for Sánchez to be president cannot be taken for granted either, because, equally, everything has a limit.

In the coming weeks we will see those borders between the possible and the impossible, for some and for others, depending on what they will be able to defend with a minimum of credibility before the respective parishes, in the key of “until four days ago I told you that, now I do this”. And that may not be easy for Sánchez, but neither for the independentistas, especially for Junts.

Puigdemont’s men are now very, very silent, and that is indicative. They know they are in the center of the board. There they have been put by the mischievous ballot boxes, by Sánchez’s angry antagonists, and by the skillful negotiators of the PSOE. But they will have to show a lot of skill to not waste all this capital, as they have pointed out that ERC has done so far. If this last scenario occurred, the polls would have given them on June 23 a poisoned gift, very difficult to digest and with incalculable negative consequences for their present and future.

Otherwise, if the Sánchez-style miracle happens, Puigdemont will also have once again shown signs of possessing a resistance manual worthy of envy. But, I insist, just as Sánchez’s speech does not allow him to grant any amnesty, the independence movement’s speech means that it cannot stop there with the amnesty, nor with any amnesty. The agreement does not look as done as some sell it.
