The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, met this Thursday in Brussels with the President of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenski, taking advantage of the Ukrainian leader’s visit to the community capital to gather more military, political and economic support in the face of the invasion that began almost a year for the Russia of Vladimir Putin. The head of the Spanish Executive has demanded from Zelenski the maximum possible support of the international community for the peace plan presented by the Ukrainian.
Sánchez made this request at the meeting he held with Zelenski in Brussels together with the leaders of Italy, Poland, the Netherlands, Romania and Sweden, which holds the rotating presidency of the EU this semester. This meeting, in which the High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy of the EU, Josep Borrell, was also present, joined several with leaders of other countries that were organized after the participation of the Ukrainian president in the extraordinary European Council that is held in Brussels.
Zelensky has asked all of them for “pragmatism” to prevail and to deliver planes to fight Russia and, from the room where he hopes to be one day as a member of the club, he called for accelerating the enlargement to “motivate the Army”.
After the meeting, Sánchez pointed out on his Twitter account that “Spain and Europe will continue to side with the Ukrainian people in their fight for freedom.”
Spanish sources reported that in that meeting, in addition to reiterating Spain’s “unequivocal” support for Ukraine, Sánchez asked for support so that the ten-point peace plan presented by Zelenski has the greatest possible support from the international community. That is why he called for concerted efforts to make it possible to become a reality.
The peace plan that the Ukrainian president presented to the G20 summit includes the implementation of the UN Charter to restore the territorial integrity of his country, the withdrawal of Russian troops, the cessation of hostilities, guaranteeing energy security and in nuclear matter, guarantee the right to food and the release of all prisoners.
