The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has announced that the Executive will build 20,000 new public and affordable rental homes on Ministry of Defense land through SEPES (Public Business Land Company) that will be added to the new homes that it has recently announced until reaching 183,000 affordable rental homes, which is, in the words of Sánchez “the largest public housing development in recent decades.”
During his appearance before the plenary session of the Senate, Sánchez, who recalled that the Ministry of Defense is one of the largest owners of public land, explained that in total there will be 113,000 public homes for rent at affordable prices if the 93,000 already announced are added, some ceded by Sareb and others of new construction financed with European funds. To these, Sánchez has added the homes already projected by the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda with the Housing for Affordable Rental plan to speak of up to 183,000 homes of these characteristics.
The head of the Executive has made this announcement in the plenary session of the Senate before which he formally appears to report on the plans implemented by the Government in the economic and social context of the war in Ukraine, and the role of the administrations but in which he has contrasting the attitude of his government, “which is not inhibited” in the face of the current crisis, to that of Mariano Rajoy’s PP who managed the financial crisis that, in his opinion, “rescued banks while the people could expect nothing except precariousness”.
In this context, Sánchez has once again asked the employers to sit down to negotiate with the unions a path to update wages in the face of inflation and has warned that the Government has not lowered its guard nor will it lower it in the following months.
