The singer Thais Hernández, born in Sant Boi de Llobregat (Barcelona), died this Tuesday at the age of 35 as a result of an illness, according to sources from her family.
Hernández, born in Sant Boi de Llobregat and raised in Castelldefels, began her musical career when she was only 20 years old and went on to perform on large stages such as the Liceu, the Palau de la Música or the Palau Sant Jordi. Furthermore, the artist combined her musical career with teaching, as she also taught singing classes at the Institut Flamenc of Barcelona.
During his 15 years of career, Hernández collaborated with great musicians and renowned names in flamenco such as the flamenco guitarist Juan Gómez ‘Chicuelo’, the rumba group Sabor de Gràcia or Las Migas, winner of the Latin Grammy Award for Best Flamenco Musical Album (Free).
It is precisely to them that she dedicates one of her latest videos on social networks, already quite afflicted by her illness, but promising that “soon” she would be “hitting it.”
“The desire gets the better of me, so the memory is the only thing that life gives me,” writes the artist. “Thanks to my colleagues for making me happy on stage.”
The singer had been fighting cancer for several years. In early 2023, she promised her followers that she would continue her fight to heal. “The truth is that, like any person who is fighting cancer, it doesn’t let you have many good days…But I don’t regret it, because this is the healing process. Even on the best day of my life I was trying to hold on like a champion,” she said, and her success was due, in part, to the unconditional support of her husband, guitarist Rafael Fernández.
“I was lucky enough to experience my wedding, to marry the most wonderful person in the world, who supports me and makes my days less bad so I can have enough patience to fight. I have had happy moments but very difficult to maintain them.
I hope another year comes and gives me the opportunity to be reborn and heal, which I long for with all my might.”
His talent and know-how had made him a very beloved member of the flamenco world in Barcelona, ??who did not hesitate to send their condolences through social networks.
“The flamenco people of Catalonia are in mourning, and we want to express our deep pain and our condolences, especially to her husband,” said the Antonio Mairena club from Hospitalet de Llobregat.
The farewell ceremony for the young Catalan singer will be held on Wednesday, December 27, at the L’Hospitalet de Llobregat funeral home.
