After more than a decade in barracks, the Hospitalet de Llobregat City Council and the Generalitat of Catalonia signed the agreement this Friday to build, once and for all, the Paco Candel school in the second city of Catalonia.

The investment budget is 8.8 million euros, 8.2 of which will be covered by the Department of Education. The rest will be provided by the City Council, which will also be in charge of bidding for the project. At the moment, there is no calendar. But City Hall sources assure that the process will be accelerated “as much as possible.”

“Paco Candel is a benchmark school for the Santa Eulàlia neighborhood, which has been in prefabricated modules for almost 13 years,” said the mayor of l’Hospitalet, Núria Marín. “From now on the entire construction process of the building begins. The project has been highly agreed upon between the families, the management, the teachers, the City Council and the Department of Education,” she added.

The Minister of Education, Anna Simó, has expressed her “joy” at being able to “unravel” a long-awaited project in the city. Simó, who is also a native of l’Hospitalet, has highlighted the importance of the “participatory process that is being carried out with the educational community in the latest constructions.”
