Thin, thick, arched, round. Over the years, eyebrows have been transformed, as have fashions, depending on the aesthetic trend of that time. In the twenties they were defined, dark and thin, and were elongated beyond the natural end of the tail. A century later, in 2020, a completely opposite style was in style: thick, filled eyebrows with pointed arches.

Now generation Z has decided to turn their eyebrows into a white canvas on which to draw a new face. Rosalía has done it before – dyeing her eyebrows or simulating small cuts like at the Latin Grammys – or Doja Cat, with shaved eyebrows at the MTV Video Music Awards. On Tiktok things have gone further and the trend

In the 1930s they became extremely thin, rounded and dark. The look of Greta Garbo, an icon of the time, is one of the most representative. Ten years later, the hardships of the Second World War would also mark a new aesthetic trend and eyebrows would become thicker and rounder, the most natural to date.

In the 1950s, the Golden Age of Hollywood, the trend was for eyebrows with a higher angled arch, defined and thick, like those of Marilyn Monroe or Grace Kelly. In the following three decades, the thickness varied very little, and natural hair was accentuated.

The 1990s and 2000s changed that trend. The eyebrows became very thin, plucked with a soft arch and very precisely. Until 2010 arrived and with the incursion of revolutionary models like Cara Delevingne, eyebrows became wild, very full, with high pointed arches and even individually painted hairs.

Now young people belonging to generation Z are leading a trend that consists of shaving their eyebrows completely in order to draw them freely. The video tutorials have gone viral, reaching more than 9 million views.

Although it is apparently safe to shave your eyebrows if you use the appropriate products to prevent cuts, the concern is that they may not grow or that small bald patches may occur. As hair care experts say, as long as the hair is not removed from the roots, it will grow back. The focus then shifts to the quality of this new hair, which will depend on the age, health status and genetics of the person.
