It is the most anticipated collaboration, and not only because we have been hearing about it for almost six months: Shakira and Manuel Turizo finally launch Copa vacía, the duet they recorded a few months ago and of which we have finally been able to hear a preview in the hours prior to its premiere, which will be on June 29 (early morning of the 30th in Spain).
The two Colombian artists put all the meat on the grill to celebrate summer, and they don’t do it in any way because, as the one from Barranquilla has said through her Instagram account, they do it with “a movie”. On this occasion, Shakira transforms into nothing less than a mermaid, who will save a Turizo (or is it the other way around?) in a video that promises to give a lot to talk about.
As the Colombian announces on the social network, Empty Cup will be released at 02:00 in the morning of June 30 (in the announcement it indicates that the single will be released on June 29 at 08:00 p.m. EST), so There are barely a few hours left to enjoy one of the songs that promise to lead the charts this summer.
A theme that also has its secrets hidden among its lyrics, as expected, and some have already begun to analyze the messages that could imply something other than a simple romance in the purest Disney style.
Phrases like “I’ve been thirsty for a while, I don’t know why from you. I’m left wanting more and wanting to drink from an empty glass” or “You’re always busy with so much business. It would be nice, my love, a little leisure”, “You don’t have to be a poet to sweeten my ear, put down the phone, use your hand with me” or “I know you’re hot, but I’m much hotter” make it clear that the song will be full of hints and double meanings.
If Shakira has decided to send more messages to her ex, Gerard Piqué, with her velvety voice between her characteristic pop and urban rhythms, we don’t know. Now, let’s remember that this song was recorded months ago, when the artist was still in Spain and was the focus of the press due to her controversial break with the former soccer player.
The video dedicated to the song does not promise to leave anyone indifferent either, because as the artist says, it is quite a movie. In true The Little Mermaid style, the two singers dive into the water to live their peculiar story. The real setting to record this fantasy was the Parc Audiovisual de Catalunya, in Terrasa, where on March 1 Shakira immersed herself in her new mermaid skin in a gigantic water tank that was specially built to recreate this story.
As Turizo commented at the time, the song belongs to Shakira, and it is she who has measured the times and who has decided how and when to release the single.
“The theme is not really mine, the theme belongs to her [Shakira]. She is the one who decides when she wants to take it out,” she explained, in an interview with Los40 last March, clarifying that the delay of the Empty Cup premiere had to do in part with the promotions of the TQG duet, with Karol G. “You have to let her be the one to direct the project and at the pace at which she wants.
