The Argentine Jorge Sampaoli has been dismissed this Tuesday as coach of Sevilla, a club he joined in October last year to replace Julen Lopetegui. The one chosen to replace him is José Luis Mendilibar, who arrived in Seville this afternoon to finalize his contract with the Andalusian team.

Sampaoli’s departure comes after last day’s defeat against Getafe (2-0), which has left Sevilla in 14th position with 28 points, two of the relegation places set by Valencia. Casilda’s coach has led 31 official matches in all competitions, with a record of 13 wins, six draws and 12 losses.

After his dismissal, the Argentine coach, who left Sevilla at the end of the 2016-2017 season to coach the Argentine team, wanted to say goodbye to the Sevilla fans. He has affirmed that football does not always “return with joy the insomnia” that it dedicates to it and that he has “no doubts that it was worth offering and putting his heart into this shield”.

The coach, in a letter published on his Instagram profile, points out that he has to “say goodbye to a city and some colours” that he holds close to his heart and that when they called him to return he thought “it was a good option to close a first stage that, somehow, had been left open”.

“Sevilla is the first team in my career in which I try a second chance. And I can certify that, despite the fact that the circumstances were different, my affection for this shield has not broken and continues to be enormous”, highlights the Argentine coach, who he leaves “with his head held high for the attitude at all times”.

In addition, he emphasizes that he leaves the team in the quarterfinals of the Europa League and because he worked “very hard to get this story forward.” Sampaoli thanks the fans, “the players and every employee of the club: I have no doubt that they will achieve their goal.”

The dismissal of Jorge Sampaoli makes Sevilla the third team this season to have more than two coaches, after Valencia and Elche, which after the departure of Pablo Machín will have six.
