Police said that a gunman opened fire at a Copenhagen shopping center, which is one of the largest in Scandinavia.

According to Soren Thomassen (head of the Copenhagen police operations unit), the suspect is a 22 year-old Danishman who was taken into custody near Fields shopping center.

Thomassen stated that he knew that “several dead” were among them, and that there was also a possibility of terror. “We don’t know if others are involved. This is what we currently know.

On Sunday, the Mayor of Copenhagen Sophie H. Andersen posted: “Terrible reports about shooting in Fields.” Although we don’t know how many were killed or injured, it is extremely serious.

The scene was captured in images that showed people running from the mall. Denmark’s TV2 broadcaster also posted a photo showing a man being taken to the hospital. Witnesses claimed that people were hiding in shops and crying.

Danish broadcaster DR reported that Laurits Hermansen was at the clothing store in the shopping center when he heard “three to four bangs.” These bangs were really loud. It was almost as if shots were being fired right next to the store.

Numerous fire trucks were also parked outside of the mall, and there was a large presence of police officers with heavy arms.

“One person was arrested in connection to the shooting at Fields. Copenhagen police said that they are unable to reveal more information about the suspect. “We have a large presence at Fields, and we are working to get an overview.”

This shopping center is located in Copenhagen’s outskirts, just across the street from the subway line that connects the city centre to the international airport. Fields was also connected to a major highway in the vicinity. It opened in 2004.

At 8 p.m., Harry Styles (ex-member of One Direction) was to perform at the Royal Arena. The exact date of the concert was not known.

Styles posted on Snapchat: “My team, I pray for all involved in the Copenhagen shopping center shooting. I am shocked. Love H.

The royal palace announced that a reception with Crown Prince Frederik in connection to the Tour de France cycling race was cancelled shortly after the shooting. According to the palace, the first three stages of this year’s race were held in Denmark. The royal yacht, which is moored at Soenderborg (the town where the third stage concluded), was to host the reception.
