Several air and land means work to extinguish a fire in Vilamarxant

Air and land resources were mobilized this Wednesday afternoon to put out a sugarcane fire in the Turia Natural Park, in the Valencian town of Vilamarxant. As a security measure, 80 people – 50 of them minors – have been evicted from the Mas de Zampa shelter.

As reported by the Emergency Coordination Center, the fire started around 4:30 p.m. Three aerial means, two forest fire units from the Generalitat Valenciana – one of them helicarried – and a fire engine are taking part in the extinction tasks. In addition, forestry personnel, Valencia firefighters and a prevention unit and environmental agent also participate.

As a preventive measure, at 4:47 p.m. the Local Police and Civil Guard proceeded to evacuate the Mas de Zampa hostel, as it was close to the incident. In total, 80 people have been evacuated, 50 of them minors, as reported by the Valencia Provincial Firefighters Consortium.

As a result of the fire, Emergencies have established situation 1 of the Special Forest Fire Plan (PEIF). This is decreed when one or more forest fires can seriously affect natural assets. It is also applied when it may slightly harm the population and assets of a non-forest nature, for whose extinction it may be necessary to incorporate extraordinary means.
