Women continue to go unnoticed in the world of wine, but they are also in charge or collaborate in very interesting wine projects. Sommelier María José Huertas has selected seven bottles of excellent quality signed by inspiring producers that are worth trying and that are the result of her passionate and hard work.
This wine is the result of Gloria Negrín’s love and great performance, following family tradition. He dedicates himself body and soul to this and to her vineyards, always with a guitar in the background. In its exuberant nose, field herbs, dried flowers, candied orange, yellow apple and sweet spices stand out. The mouthfeel is enveloping, thanks to its 4 months with fine lees and citrus in its long and pleasant finish.
Clara Verheij surprises us with this sweet red wine, since we are more accustomed to her delicious dry and sweet whites from Moscatel grapes. In this case the grapes come from Ronda, although the soul of the wine is Axarqueño. It has been aged in French oak barrels for 4 months and is a very primary wine with aromas of black fruit, olive, cocoa and flowers. In the mouth, its success lies in the balance between sweetness, acidity and a slight final tannicity.
Very fine bubbles and golden color. Its nose reveals its long aging with a dominance of roasted apple, yeast, pastries and bakery. The palate is wide, creamy, and with a very well integrated bubble. The finish is long with hints of smoke and nuts. In this winery, organic work is a pillar. María Rigol is in charge of it and this cava is a beautiful gesture, in which she pays tribute to her mother and her grandmother.
This is the personal project of Marta Pedra, responsible for the production of this single-varietal red wine. Traditional preparation is its hallmark. Its expression is very Mediterranean with a dominance of ripe red fruit, herbal and cocoa touches. In the mouth, the ripe character of the fruit is supported by good acidity. Five months of aging in barrels give it certain nuances, especially in the palate and finish.
Lucia Abando, a member of the sixth generation of the family of this winery, has recently joined to contribute her wisdom and good work to this project. Located in Laguardia and protected by the Sierra Cantabria, its vineyards are developed in Entradas de San Ángel. The wine has spent 18 months in French oak barrels and is absolutely powerful. The nose clearly reveals the variety of the grape with wild fruits, fine woods, sweet spices and smoky touches. The palate is powerful, with a good fruit load, fresh and long finish.
Merche Dalmau is the person responsible for defending this project at El Molar. It is an organic red wine, whose grapes come from 5 different vineyards. It has been aged for 12 months in barrels and the result is a wine that is intense on the nose and seductive in the mouth. It presents black berries, spices, aromatic herbs, mineral touches and menthol notes. Its juicy palate is fruity, freshness is a priority and in the finish it leaves pleasant sensations of bitter cocoa.
Bárbara Mesquida is the winemaker of this project, one of the most interesting on the island. All of her work is of the utmost respect both in the winery and in the vineyard. Fermentation is carried out with skins and therefore the color tends towards gold. The nose is intense with notes of yellow apple, dried chamomile-type flowers, candied orange and smoky touches. The palate is smooth, fruity and armed thanks to its good acidity and slight bitterness. It leaves a very mineral and somewhat saline sensation at the end.
