Seven injured, two of them minors, due to a pair of fires in Girona

Seven people were injured this Saturday in Girona – six in less serious condition and one in minor condition – due to two fires that originated in homes in the city. According to the Firefighters, the first warning was received a few minutes after three, when a mattress caught fire in an apartment on Riu Güell Street.

In the second case, the fire started when it was twenty minutes past four in the afternoon, after a scooter ended up on fire inside a house on Rutlla Street. Those affected by the first fire were five people, four of whom were taken to the Palamós Hospital and one to the Trueta Hospital in Girona, where those injured in the second fire were also taken.

According to sources from the Fire Department, the fire that broke out in Girona around three in the afternoon in an apartment on Riu Güell street in the town started in a mattress. After trying to extinguish it without success, the tenants of the house took him to the stairs where they tried to extinguish him with a fire extinguisher. The action of removing it from the house has caused a large amount of smoke throughout the block. When the Firefighters arrived, the mattress was almost off and they checked the building floor by floor to rule out more injuries, and the building that suffered damage to the electrical installation was ventilated.

The family in the apartment where the fire started had to be evacuated. Four people have been transferred by the SEM to the Palamós Hospital. Among them, according to Bomber, were two minors who entered the hospital’s hyperbaric chamber. The fifth person was transferred to the Trueta Hospital in Girona. All of them are in less serious condition.

The second fire, declared when it was twenty minutes past four in the afternoon in a house on Rutlla street in Girona, has left a less seriously injured man with superficial burns for, according to the Firefighters, “he had tried to enter the the home” and a woman in mild condition. The fire was caused by an electric scooter that caught fire. Both were transferred to the Trueta Hospital in Girona. In this case, the Firefighters put out the fire by taking the scooter out to the street and also ventilated the house.

In total, three ground crews were activated for the first fire and seven for the second.
