Nine years of confinement and another five years of supervised release for the author of the death of the 18-year-old murdered in Palomares del Río (Seville) on November 1, 2022. This is reflected in the sentence issued by the Juvenile Court number 1 in Seville and which was announced today.
The accused, who was arrested in Coria del Río when he was still a minor, expressed during the trial his regret for what happened and asked for forgiveness from the family of the deceased.
According to judicial sources, the person convicted of these events will serve the sentence of confinement in the juvenile center where he is located, since he was 17 years old at the time of the crime, and will subsequently be placed on probation with movement controls for five more years. . The sentence is halfway between the eight years in prison requested by the Prosecutor’s Office and the ten years demanded by the murdered man’s family.
Coinciding with the start of the hearing, María del Carmen Jiménez, mother of the victim, requested a reform of the law that prosecutes minors for serious crimes, considering that a young person of 16 or 17 years of age is “fully aware of his actions, and it should also be about its consequences.”
The accused has been tried by a juvenile court since he was a minor when the events occurred, for which another adult accused is pending trial in the Seville Court.
However, Jesús’ mother, as the victim was called, continues to insist that at least five other minors were involved in the murder of her son.
‘The Halloween crime’, as this case has been known, took place on November 1, when Jesus returned home at dawn. He had gone to Seville to enjoy a party but the event was canceled and he decided to return to Palomares.
Early in the morning, he ran into his brother in a park and asked for his house keys. Apparently, at this moment, another group of young people passed through the park; it would be the group that beat him until he was killed minutes later.
It was 3:45 a.m. when the dogs at the mother’s house started barking. Carmen went out to see what was happening, and about her, near her house, she saw two boys trying to revive another young man following the instructions given by the medical service over the phone. It was his son, who had suffered a brutal attack and who lost his life then.
“Go for this one,” one of the members of the group said to the rest, according to the woman’s story based on the investigations, after which “they began to follow him along that entire street.”
“Five people surrounded him. When they approached him on the corner he ended up on the sidewalk in front of my house. Between two cars they began to hit him and the adult admitted that he was the one who started it with the first punch to my son in the face,” he said, alluding to the content of the investigation.
“They argue that they were going with the intention of stealing, but I think there was premeditation due to the type of damage my son had. There was treachery and there was cruelty,” considered the victim’s mother, explaining that when her son was discovered on the ground, after the attack, “he had his cell phone, his wallet, his watch, his chain, his bracelet, he had it all”.
Thus, he warned that although there are two people accused of this crime, “there were five who were present and who were there until the end,” including two people who appear as witnesses, also raising his doubt about “whether the five were the only ones who were there or not.”
