In June you can buy many types of fruit and vegetables fresh from the region. Read here which fruits and vegetables are in season now.

There are rarely so many different and varied regional vegetables available to buy during the year. The month of June shines with its magnificent selection.

Not only the popular asparagus, pointed cabbage and rhubarb are still available locally and fresh, but there are also several other varieties, for example these:

Beans: You can look forward to popular protein bombs, for example, broad beans, peas and sugar snap peas.

Broccoli: Other popular seasonal varieties include broccoli. It is considered a very healthy vegetable and can be combined excellently with other regional products such as potatoes, radishes or parsley. It provides you with a lot of minerals and vitamins such as potassium, calcium, phosphorus, iron, zinc and sodium and B1, B2, B6, E and vitamin C.

Cauliflower, spinach, onions, mushrooms, zucchini and fennel are also in season in the summer months and ensure that it is particularly easy to cook healthy, fresh and regional meals.

In June, many herbs are in season and add a special touch to any dish. Chives, lemon balm, basil, dill and rosemary are just a few examples of the evergreen favorites.

A number of salads and vegetables can be combined to create a light summer raw food or a healthy side dish for grilling. In June, lettuce, leaf lettuce, iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, spring onions and kohlrabi are available seasonally.

June is not only the start of summer, but also the start of the fruit season in Germany. This means that you can now buy the first berries and regional apples.

In addition, the first cherries, currants and raspberries are available in June. Red fruits in particular are considered particularly healthy as they contain many antioxidants that strengthen the immune system and have an anti-inflammatory effect.

Strawberries are particularly popular. Strictly speaking, they are nuts and contain many healthy substances. For example, they provide the body with vitamin C, folic acid and protective antioxidants. In addition, 125 grams contain just 60 kilocalories, making them ideal as a refreshing and light snack between meals. When buying, make sure they are organic so that you don’t ingest any pesticides.

From June onwards you can also go and pick your own strawberries. Many strawberry farmers offer this and you can be sure that you are getting fresh, local produce. You can also choose the best ones and get some fresh air.

The main apple harvest season only begins in August. However, in Germany, local apples can be bought as early as June. It is doubly worth buying them again, because the main season in the coming summer months means there are comparatively few regional apples in the shops.

Apples also contain many valuable ingredients that are good for your health. They contain a lot of fiber and are therefore good for the intestines. They also contain vitamins A, C and B, lower cholesterol levels and strengthen the lungs.
