The Germans Trias Hospital in Badalona (Barcelonès Nord) experienced a historic milestone this morning: today was the first time that Santa Claus arrived by zip line to the facilities of a Catalan hospital.
It has been in a new edition of the initiative promoted by the Enriqueta Villavecchia Children’s Oncology Foundation, and which has had the support of Bombers Solidaris of Barcelona and, this year, also with the collaboration of the Bombers of the Generalitat of the Badalona park .
Santa Claus already knows the Germans Trias well, because he has already been the protagonist of a similar action in the last two years: in this sense, until now he had descended from the roof of the mother-child care building, rappelling, to the windows of the Pediatrics floor, to greet the admitted children and their families. Santa Claus also takes advantage of this moment to distribute, through the windows, the Villavecchia Foundation’s solidarity chocolate, ‘Chocolate Smiles’.
However, this year, in addition to repeating this, he has previously zip-lined from the general Hospital building to the mother-child building, overcoming a gap distance of 64 meters, from a height of 14 floors. The action could be seen from outside the Hospital and brought together many curious onlookers, for example from the parking lot located in front of the Outpatient Clinics, on the west side of the hospital.
Inside the rooms, children, mothers, fathers and Pediatric professionals at the Hospital have been amazed and surprised by this magical arrival of Santa Claus and his helpers. The action has also been followed, among others, by the Territorial Clinical Director of Pediatrics of the Northern Metropolitan Territorial Management of the ICS, Carlos Rodrigo, and the Head of the Pediatrics Service, María Méndez. The person in charge of the Assistance and Volunteering Area, Arantxa De Lara, was also present on behalf of the Villavecchia Foundation.
Today’s event will not be the only one that will be held at Christmas at the Germans Trias Hospital, a center that this year is commemorating, throughout the year and until spring, its 40 years of history.
In the coming weeks, various entities and associations, especially sports, such as the Club Joventut de Badalona or the Fútbol Club Barcelona, ??will parade around the Pediatrics floor distributing gifts.
Before, this week, there will also be a carol singing by a student choir and an emotional act of recognition for the hospital professionals who have retired in 2023.
