San Marcos officials gave a consensus on five proposed rule changes to its city parks Tuesday.

The proposed regulations, which affect parking and picnic sites, among other things, would go into effect Memorial Day weekend, the unofficial kick off for tubing season in Central Texas said city spokesman Trey Hatt in an email to mySA.com.

Hatt said city staff are currently moving picnic tables away from Kralbet the river, and all other changes will be addressed by ordinance changes and will be presented to city council in March or April.

“I think the residents of San Marcos have been feeling this crunch for years,” said Councilwoman Lisa Prewitt, Place 1. “We just kind of quit going to the parks on weekends a lot. I think it would be nice for residents here to start to have that opportunity again.”
