Samsung maintains the path of the foldables that have replaced its Galaxy Note line in recent years, which have provided it with enough perspective and experience to detect consumer preferences and refine all its mechanisms. Five years ago, no one could know if the folding were simply a demonstration of technological power beyond its practical utility.

In the Korean company, the Galaxy Z Fold ended up absorbing the Galaxy Note and the next step has been to make its emblematic S-Pen pointer an optional accessory. This year, Samsung’s sophisticated stylus can only be purchased separately from the phone, with an external case, because it is no longer integrated into the device’s casing. It was normal for engineers to come to the conclusion that if they wanted to slim down the foldable, still somewhat thick compared to a conventional smartphone, they had to gain space as much as possible. Goodbye pencil.

The news about the fifth version of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip is a lot on the bright side. Less weight, less thickness, a lot of computing power and excellent screens are some of the characteristics in which the new terminals stand out. In the case of folding, however, it is necessary to point out again the classic engineering work applied to the hinge. The Korean company has finally managed to eliminate the small gap near the fold point. This makes your phones not only more beautiful, but also more manageable and pleasant to hold.

These are two very different products aimed at very different audiences, although they share some common characteristics. The Galaxy Z Fold is very focused on productivity, because, despite its constant reductions in weight and thickness, it is not as comfortable to wear as the Galaxy Z Flip, a mobile phone with a strong emotional component.

Writing and viewing documents, web pages and other content on the 7.6-inch Samsung Galaxy Z Fold’s unfolded screen is spectacular. It is a Dynamic AMOLED panel (with an adaptive refresh rate, from 1 to 120 Hz) that has increased its maximum brightness to 1,750 nits, 50% more, which allows it to be used perfectly even in full sun. Samsung has been very focused on providing arguments for those who want to work with the Fold like a tablet, with features like drag and drop and the myriad of almost magical features of the S-Pen. The exterior screen, with the terminal folded, is another excellent 6.2-inch Dynamic Amoled. The S-Pen with its accessory sleeve makes the device quite thicker. It is the first time since the Galaxy Note that the Korean brand does not include the stylus in any of its premium terminals and this has something to do with public preferences.

The heart of the fifth-generation Samsung Galaxy Z Fold, like the Galaxy Z Flip, is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip made especially for Samsung, with some extra acceleration. Pure power and ease for everything. The battery is 4,400 mAh and has wireless and fast charging. Memory configurations are 12 GB of RAM and three storage options: 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB. It will be available in Ice Blue, Phantom Black, Cream, Gray and Blue colors.

Its camera system is made up of three rear sensors: a 50-megapixel main one, a 12-megapixel wide angle, and a 12-megapixel three-magnification telephoto. The camera software allows numerous options and uses the semi-deployed mobile to compose images without the need for a tripod and with functions on the lower half screen.

The fifth generation Samsung Galaxy Z Flip is the one that includes the most striking novelty of this launch. While its internal display, 6.7 inches, is a Dynamic AMOLED, with a variable refresh rate from 1 to 120 Hz that allows a more precise display depending on the type of content, the protagonist is, however, the external one. (called Flex Window), a 3.4-inch SuperAMOLED, more than three times larger than the previous generation and very versatile for folded phone use.

Thanks to the new outer screen, you don’t need to open the Flip for many functions, including access to WhatsApp or Netflix (although who wants to watch a video on the small screen when you have the big one?). From the folded Flip you can access widgets, apps, notifications, and even view and edit photos from a simple and intuitive interface.

The Flip’s camera system is double: a 12-megapixel main sensor and another 12-megapixel ultra-wide angle. The grace with this phone is that the main camera can be used for selfies, with a good size screen to control the framing. The processor is also the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in its version for Samsung and the memory configurations are 8 GB and the possibility of 256 GB or 512 GB of storage. The battery is 3,700 mAh and has fast wireless charging. The available colors will be Mint, Graphite, Cream, Lavender, Grey, Blue, Green and Yellow.

At the same summer Unpacked event, Samsung has presented its new generation of tablets Galaxy Tab S9 (11 inches), Galaxy Tab S9 (12.4 inches) and Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra (14.6 inches), which also incorporate the Snapdragon chip. 8 Gen 2 and unleash your productivity with the S-Pen. The Korean firm has also announced the new Galaxy Watch 6 watches (in 44 and 40 mm) and Galaxy Watch 6 Classic (in 47 and 43 mm).

The price range is high in the case of folding ones due to all the technology they carry, in addition to the extra software, the work of the hinge is essential. The two new foldables can be pre-purchased until August 10. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold costs 1,909 euros (256 GB), 2,029 euros (512 GB), 2,269 euros (1 TB). For its part, the Galaxy Z Flip has prices of 1,209 euros (256GB) and 1,329 euros (512GB).
