Sabrina Ionescu, one of the stars of the New York Liberty, made history at the All-Star in Las Vegas (USA) by breaking the record in a WNBA and NBA three-point contest. Ionescu, who was proclaimed champion of this WNBA contest with ease, got 37 of 40 possible points with a huge 25 of 27 on triples.
The American player of Romanian descent reached such a degree of perfection that she managed to make 20 consecutive three-pointers, also a record in both the WNBA and the NBA. The record in an NBA All-Star three-point contest was held by Stephen Curry (2021) and Tyrese Haliburton (2023) with 31 points.
“RIDICULOUS!” the Golden State Warriors point guard wrote on Twitter, showing his admiration for Ionescu’s feat.
In the WNBA, the best mark so far in a 3-point contest belonged to Allie Quigley (2022) with 30 points.
“UNBELIEVABLE!!! This record will never be broken,” Quigley tweeted about Ionescu’s feat.
The WNBA All-Star game will be played this Saturday also in the city of the game.
