The acting vice-minister of the Generalitat, Sergi Sabrià, follows in the footsteps of Pere Aragonès and Marta Rovira and will leave politics once a new Government is formed. The ERC member has announced this in a letter in which he assures that he will embark on “new professional paths.”

“As Marta and Pere have said in recent days, it is time to

“new faces and new ideas, to make way for new leadership,” says Sabrià before emphasizing that he takes “a step to the side, convinced and confident” that ERC “has a new generation prepared to take over a role that has been passing for 93 years.” from hand to hand with the goal of freedom.”

With Sabrià, there are now three names from Esquerra who, after the debacle of the Catalan elections on May 12, have announced their departure. Aragonès made public his intention to leave his position as national coordinator of the party once the national congress that the Republicans will hold on November 30 is held and in which the strategy and leadership of the party will be redefined. Rovira has also committed itself. He will accompany the reconstruction process, but will leave the general secretary on November 30.

Oriol Junqueras has proceeded in a different way. The president of ERC will leave after the European elections on June 9, but with his sights set on that congress, as he intends to run for re-election to continue leading the party.

Sabrià does not currently hold any organic position in the organization. In June 2021 he was appointed director of the Strategy and Communication Office of the Presidency of the Generalitat. In January 2024, he also became vice-counselor for Strategy and Communication, an unusual figure, but with which Aragonès intended to counteract the constant criticism of the opposition. Sabrià is a sharp verb.

Previously, Sabrià was mayor of Palafrugell from 2009 to 2011. He served as deputy from 2012 to 2021. From 2018 to 2021 he was president of the ERC parliamentary group.

At the beginning of the letter, Sabrià recalled some of the most important moments of his political career and in the final part he said goodbye with thanks to those who have “accompanied him throughout this time.”
