Russia bombs near Zelensky and Mitsotakis' delegation in Odessa

Several explosions were recorded this Wednesday less than 200 meters from the car convoys in which the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, and the Greek prime minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, were traveling, a few minutes before the two leaders met, unharmed, in the Ukrainian city of Odessa.

According to private television SKAI, the explosions were recorded just about 150 meters from the convoy and were caused by a Russian drone attack.

Greek government sources indicated that Mitsotakis and all members of his delegation are in good health, and that a few minutes after the incident, Mitsotakis and Zelensky held their planned meeting.

Immediately after the explosions occurred, the Greek convoy deviated from its predetermined path, following the instructions of the Ukrainian authorities, SKAI said.

According to the correspondent of the Greek public broadcaster ERT in Odessa, during the meeting of the two leaders, an attack with ballistic missiles was also recorded in the city, for which the sirens sounded and the air defense was activated.

“We were in the port of Odessa and President Zelensky and his team were giving us a guided tour when we heard sirens and, shortly after, as we were getting into our cars, we heard a big explosion,” Mitsotakis said after the meeting at a rally. press alongside the Ukrainian president.

This port city in southwestern Ukraine was the target of another airstrike last Saturday.

Mitsotakis’ trip to Ukraine had not been previously announced, but was revealed by Greek media this Wednesday, highlighting that it was a lightning visit to Odessa to meet with Zelensky and show Athens’ support for Kyiv in the war against Russia. .
