Rubiales appears before the Swiss justice accused of illegal recordings

The president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Luis Rubiales, appeared on Thursday in the courts of the Canton of Vaud in Switzerland after being accused of serious slander against the president of LaLiga, Javier Tebas, reported Iusport, the portal specialized in sports law, and the agency Servimedia.

The Swiss Public Ministry opened a judicial proceeding against Rubiales for his comments during a meeting held on May 8, 2019 at the UEFA headquarters, but he is also accused of having recorded precisely that meeting without the consent of those present.

As reported by El Mundo, Rubiales accused Tebas of corruption in the presence of the executives of the European leagues. And specifically, according to the summons issued by that medium, of receiving an “illicit commission” in exchange for the management of LaLiga’s international audiovisual rights that would have been paid by Mediapro.

The appearance took place before the Switzerland-Spain match in Geneva of the Nations League, which Spain won 0-1 with a goal from Pablo Sarabia in the first half. Accompanied by three lawyers, he would not have answered any of the questions to which he was subjected, according to Onda Cero.

It should be remembered that Rubiales is being investigated by the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office about his management in the federal entity. It was also news when the leaked audios with Gerard Piqué came to light in which they talked about taking the Spanish Super Cup to Saudi Arabia and the economic benefit that it would entail. El Confidencial also published that he paid for a trip to New York with money from the Federation together with his then partner.
