White smoke: David Broncano signs for RTVE. After his hiring had been on the table up to five times, it was not until this morning that the Board of Directors of RTVE, in an extraordinary meeting, gave the green light to the presenter of The Resistance (Movistar Plus) to host the next season. this program, or one with similar characteristics, on RTVE’s La 1, in direct competition with Pablo Motos’s El hormiguero on Antena 3.

The casting vote of the interim president of the corporation, Concepción Cascajosa, has been imposed in the face of a new absence without delegating her vote to the former president and advisor of the public entity Elena Sánchez, who was absent last week for medical reasons. The vote would have had four votes in favor and two against.

The last few weeks have been marked by the debate generated by the signing of the comedian and presenter David Broncano with a new program for the ‘access prime time’ slot of La 1, and the tensions derived from it, which ended with the director’s dismissal of Contents José Pablo López and the dismissal of the then president Elena Sánchez.

On March 11, the RTVE directors already chose to postpone the vote on the hiring of Broncano in an extraordinary Board of Directors, due to doubts about the viability of a contract that would involve the payment of 42 million euros for three seasons plus VAT (14 million euros per year), from September 2024 to July 2027. The majority of the Board of Directors rejected the contract proposed by the Content Directorate led by José Pablo López.

The last known proposal up for debate was a two-year contract, at 14 million per season, and the second could be canceled if it did not reach a screen share of 7.5% in six months. The program would be broadcast from Monday to Thursday starting at 9:45 p.m. (the duration of Newscast 2 would be cut) and would have a duration of about 70 minutes.
