This Tuesday one of the most explosive RTVE Board of Directors meetings in recent times took place. So much so, that it has ended with the dismissal of two important figures in the Corporation.
This meeting was one of the most relevant and complex that its interim president Elena Sánchez faced. And, to the surprise of many, it has ended with her impeachment. With this, she leaves an open stage in which future presidencies will be rotating.
This vote has been opened at the proposal of counselor Roberto Lakidain, from Unidas Podemos, and after a recess in which PP and PSOE have been able to agree on some things. Both parties have reached an agreement so that this presidency will be rotating from that moment on.
With this, both the three councilors of the Popular Party, as well as the two of the Socialist Party and Lakidain have voted in favor of removing Elena Sánchez from her duties as president of RTVE. On the other hand, the PCE councilor voted against and the PNV councilor abstained.
This occurred a few minutes after this same council dismissed its Director of General Content, José Pablo López. An unexpected decision given that they had to change the order on the day in extremis. Elena Sánchez herself has been one of those who has voted in favor of this dismissal before hers arrived.
She has been joined by the votes of Jenaro Castro, Carmen Sastre, Consuelo Aparicio (proposed by the PP) and José Manuel Martín Medem (proposed by the PCE).
During the last stage of her mandate, Elena Sánchez has been involved in a controversial war with the also dismissed José Pablo López, which has ended up triggering everything. The former content director intended to hire Belén Esteban as a judge for Baila como puede, as Informalia revealed. However, she strongly objected.
This controversy was joined, in turn, to the controversial signing proposed by López de Broncano and his La Resistencia to compete against Pablo Motos and El Hormiguero. Some tug of war that has ended with the dismissal of both.
Now, the body will be left with only eight members, given that they have already decreased with the resignation in 2022 of former president José Manuel Pérez Tornero. At that time, Sánchez rose as interim president at the proposal of the PSOE.
Some information that is not being liked at all. Pilar Alegría expressed in a press conference that she is experiencing “very concern about the information and leaks that are coming out” from the council.
