“Spectre is the Rolls-Royce that changes everything. It symbolizes not only the brand’s technological leadership in the super-luxury sector, but also represents that the bold electric future, first prophesied in 1900 by our founder, Charles Rolls, has already arrived and looms over us. “These are words by Torsten Müller-Ötvös, CEO of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, during the announcement of the imminent arrival on the market of the first 100% electric model of the prestigious double R firm.
First customer deliveries of Rolls-Royce’s zero-emissions coupe will begin in the fourth quarter of the year. But until it reaches the production units, the Specter will have come a long way to ensure excellent levels of quality, at the level of what the most demanding consumers in the world expect.
A few weeks ago they concluded the final phases of their development and manufacturing quality tests. To achieve its final, perfect form, the Specter has completed a strict testing program in the hands of the company’s engineers – the most severe testing regime in the brand’s nearly 120-year history – spanning a total of 2 .5 million kilometers traveled in all imaginable extremes of temperature, climate, and types and conditions of roads and surfaces.
The British coupe has replicated conditions of use and material stress equivalent to simulating 400 years of use in temperatures ranging from -40°C to 50°C, and in conditions ranging from Arctic snow and ice to deserts, the high mountain passes and the megacities of the world.
In this process, Rolls-Royce technicians carefully observed, analyzed and adjusted each of the Specter’s 141,200 digital transmitter-receiver relationships and 25,000 performance-related functions, a process that has represented more than 50,000 collective hours of work and precise and detailed analysis.
The goal of these meticulous tests – which have resulted in thousands of small improvements, from acoustic performance or cornering composure, steering precision to charging times, electrical range or torque delivery – has been has been to ensure that the perception of perfection is a reality in all aspects of the vehicle.
