Rice is also eaten during Carnival. As an example, I have captured this photograph of the popular Arrossada in Albons for The Readers’ Photos of La Vanguardia.
As is customary, every year on Carnival Tuesday this festival is celebrated with a large influx of people, around 2,000 people, a figure that has exceeded that of last year and with a spring temperature.
This rice party is, currently, the most outstanding event of the Albons Carnival festivities. Now, in the past, this meal was one more event among the many that took place around this time, such as the Vestits Parade or the Ball de Deu.
To make the rice, the days before the young people of Albons go from house to house looking for everything they need to cook it. Today, the City Council collaborates in the organization of the festival and also places the chairs and tables around the old schools.
Throughout the morning, the fires begin to be lit and the pots that will be used to make the rice are prepared. About 20 copper pots to cook the more than 174 kilos of Pals rice that, combined with other ingredients, meat and fish and a special sauce, serve to feed these more than 2,000 people.
