The cases of corruption that in recent weeks have been splashing the Civil Guard have claimed the head of the director of the Armed Institute. María Gámez, who took office in January 2020, has submitted her resignation to Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska after being cornered by the Mediator Case or Barracks Case, but above all by the accusation of her husband in a piece of the famous case of the ERE of Andalusia. Her replacement at the head of the Civil Guard will be Mercedes González, until now a government delegate in the Community of Madrid.

The resignation coincides with the judicial investigations for the alleged irregularities in works in 13 command posts and with the Mediator case, affecting two retired Civil Guard generals, Pedro Vázquez Jarava and Francisco Espinosa Navas, the latter in prison for the bites in which The former socialist deputy Juan Bernardo Fuentes Curbelo, alias Tito Berni, is also charged.

María Gámez replaced Félix Azón at the head of the Civil Guard in January 2020, both with Fernando Grande-Marlaska as Interior Minister. Previously, she was a subdelegate of the Government in the province of Malaga and a councilor in the Malaga City Council.
