The repair works on the bridges affected in El Álamo by DANA at the beginning of September will begin this Wednesday, more than a month after the torrential rains passed through the region, so that residents can regain mobility in the municipality.

The Minister of the Presidency, Justice and Local Administration, Miguel Ángel García Martín, visited El Álamo this Tuesday to learn about the reconstruction projects in the area, which will have an estimated cost of 140,000 euros charged to a portion of the supramunicipal Reserve Fund of the Regional Investment Program (PIR) 2022/26.

Once the technicians have verified that the affected structures of El Álamo have no structural damage, the rehabilitation work will begin tomorrow, according to García Martín, who has specified that the bridges in other municipalities, such as Aldea del Fresno, will be repaired “in a period of between nine and fifteen months”.

Meanwhile, he explained, work is being done to put the three provisional bridges into operation and, in parallel, the Community of Madrid is collaborating with Defense in the construction of the provisional bridge for transit between Aldea del Fresno and Villamanta, which will be ready “in the next dates”.

Regarding this last structure, which will consist of a 49-meter-long Mabey-type bridge, the Ministry of Defense announced this weekend that it expected it to be ready this Tuesday.

In El Álamo, the first works will begin on the Infanta Cristina and Retablo viaducts, located to the northwest, and the Avilés and Paseo de las Vegas viaducts, located to the west.

They will consist of the dismantling of damaged street furniture, the replacement and renewal of public lighting and a structural repair acting on the concrete of the platform, in addition to the improvement of sidewalks, bricks and railings.

With respect to the two pontoons located on the Arroyo de los Vegones, which give access to the Regional Park of the Middle Course of the Guadarrama River, work will be carried out to clear brush and clean sand, garbage, stones and vegetation with specialized tools to guarantee the conservation of the species in this protected area.

El Álamo is one of the towns in the region most affected by the torrential rains at the beginning of September, along with Aldea del Fresno, Navalagamella, Sevilla la Nueva, Villa del Prado, Villamanta, Villamantilla and Villanueva de Perales, municipalities that ended up devastated by the passage of the DANA.
